Job Title: Press Secretary
Department: Communications
Work to be Performed:
- Serves as chief corporation spokesperson with all primary media outlets
- Oversees LMDC’s communications and media strategy ensuring positive media coverage consistent with LMDC messages
- Consults with the President on communications and press matters
- Coordinates and manages media events including press conferences, public hearings, ground breakings, openings, and general announcements efforts with the President and Board of Directors
- Coordinates community outreach to Lower Manhattan communities and key constituencies, as needed
- Coordinates the planning and execution of public hearings
- Works with the President and Senior Staff in responding to community inquiries and ensures that Community Boards 1, 2 and 3 are consulted, when appropriate
- Reviews all public documents prior to review by the President and subsequent release
- Develops and maintains communications calendar for promotion of initiatives through press conferences, press releases, exhibits, op-ed pieces, meetings with reporters and editorial boards, marketing materials, and speaking engagements for LMDC executives and board members
- Serves as primary contact for senior communications staff of various government entities, including Office of the Governor, Office of the Mayor and the Port Authority, Community Boards, and other elected officials
- Develops and manages compliance with Communications budget
- Oversees or manages Communications Department contractor/vendor and Subrecipient relationships
- Reviews invoices and authorizes payments for all Communications expenses
- Conducts special projects as assigned
Skills Required:
- Excellent management, interpersonal, and presentation skills
- Excellent oral and written communication skills
- Communications experience
- Experience working with government agencies and regulatory agencies
- Familiarity with Lower Manhattan and community development in New York
- Proficiency in Microsoft Word, Microsoft Project, and Excel
Education and Experience:
BA or BS required, Master’s or equivalent would be a plus
Approximate Hiring Salary: $75,000 - $85,000; commensurate with experience
