The Lower Manhattan Development Corporation and The City of New York Parks and Recreation announce the opening of DeLury Square Park – one of the new open spaces created by the Fulton Street Corridor Revitalization Project.  The LMDC has allocated $39 million for the Fulton Street Corridor Revitalization Project, through a Community Development Block Grant from the U.S. Department of Housing and Urban Development. 

“The Lower Manhattan Development Corporation is proud to provide the funding to build this beautiful, accessible park, which is a critical element of the ongoing revitalization of the Fulton Street Corridor and Lower Manhattan”, said LMDC Chairman Avi Schick.  “The opening of DeLury Square Park is just one part of LMDC’s $39 million allocation for the Fulton Street Corridor, which also includes streetscape improvements and improvements to storefronts and the facades of buildings.”

“The Bloomberg Administration recognizes the important connection between the attractiveness of our City’s neighborhoods and the health and vitality of our local economy,” said Deputy Mayor for Economic Development Robert K. Steel.  “Despite the national economic downturn, we’ve continued to make targeted investments in neighborhoods in all five boroughs to help them become even better places to live, work and visit. The new DeLury Square is the latest example of that commitment and will be a tremendous asset for Lower Manhattan, one of New York’s fastest-growing residential neighborhoods.”

The new 8,850-square-foot DeLury Square Park includes a display fountain, which provides a visual focal point while helping to mask noise from the adjacent streets.  The existing large trees are complemented by new trees and plantings, arranged to provide a lush, green landscape.  New benches with a simple and graceful style that match the fountain accommodate those wishing to rest within the park.  A new drainage system and a drinking fountain are included.

The Fulton Street Corridor Revitalization Project will revitalize and improve Fulton Street and the adjoining areas of the Fulton Corridor.  The Fulton Corridor Revitalization Project will create a vibrant mixed-use retail area with new and improved open spaces to serve the surrounding commercial areas, residential areas, as well as the numerous visitors to Lower Manhattan.
