October 21st – The Lower Manhattan Development Corporation (LMDC) is proud to announce that according to New York City Economic Development Corporation the New York City Waterfalls Public Art Project generated a larger impact in tourism then anticipated for Lower Manhattan. 15 percent of all Waterfalls viewers who stayed in a hotel chose a hotel in Lower Manhattan which provided a significant increase to the Lower Manhattan economy. Overall 23 percent of Waterfalls viewers, more than 320,000 people made their first trip to Lower Manhattan to see the Waterfalls.

“This amazing once in a lifetime exhibit attracted additional 320,000 visitors to Lower Manhattan”, stated Avi Schick, Chairman of Lower Manhattan Development Corporation. “We at LMDC were excited to play a role in this exhibit and hoped that those that visited the Waterfalls enjoyed all the outstanding cultural amenities and opportunities Lower Manhattan has to offer.”

New York City Waterfalls Public Art Project, is an exhibit by internationally acclaimed artist Olafur Eliasson. The exhibition of four man-made waterfalls of monumental scale were on view from June 26, 2008 until October 13, 2008 at four sites on the shores of the New York waterfront: one in Lower Manhattan at Pier 35 north of the Manhattan Bridge, one on the Brooklyn anchorage of the Brooklyn Bridge, one between Piers 4 and 5 near the Brooklyn Heights Promenade, and one on the north shore of Governors Island.
