Lower Manhattan Development Corporation Chairman Avi Schick today announced three new appointments to the LMDC board.  The three new members of the board of the LMDC are Brookfield Chairman John Zuccotti, Deputy Mayor for Economic Development Robert C. Lieber and Chief of Staff to New York City’s Deputy Mayor for Operations, Cas Holloway. 

“These three new additions to the board bring decades of government and private sector experience which will help LMDC realize the Governor and Mayor’s vision for a revitalized Lower Manhattan,” said Chairman Schick.

"I am delighted to accept the Governor's invitation to serve on the LMDC Board.  I appreciate the chance to participate in this important endeavor,” said Brookfield Chairman John Zuccotti.

“The revitalization that has taken place in Lower Manhattan since 9/11 has been remarkable,” said Deputy Mayor for Economic Development Robert C. Lieber.  “However, a tremendous amount of work remains to be done to ensure that we build on the progress that’s been made.  I look forward to working with LMDC to help make that happen.”

"I look forward to serving on the LMDC Board and contributing to moving the redevelopment of Lower Manhattan forward,” said Chief of Staff to the Deputy Mayor for Operations, Cas Holloway.  “Completing the abatement and demolition of 130 Liberty Street as quickly as safety permits is critical to implementing Mayor Bloomberg’s vision for Lower Manhattan, and I am committed to achieving that goal.”

The Lower Manhattan Development Corporation was created in the aftermath of the September 11 attacks to help plan and coordinate the rebuilding and revitalization of Lower Manhattan, and is charged with ensuring that Lower Manhattan recovers from the attacks.

John Zuccotti is Chairman of Brookfield Financial Properties (formerly World Financial Properties) and Senior Counsel in the Real Estate Department of the international law firm of Weil, Gotshal & Manges LLP.  He served as President and Chief Executive Officer of Olympia & York Companies (U.S.A.) since January 1990.  Prior to joining Olympia & York, Zuccotti was a Partner in the law firm of Brown & Wood from 1986 to 1990.  Mr. Zuccotti served as a First Deputy Mayor of New York City from 1975 to 1977.   

Robert C. Lieber is the Deputy Mayor for Economic Development for the City of New York.  Prior to his appointment, Deputy Mayor Lieber served as the President of the Economic Development Corporation where he helped shepherd the Jamaica, Queen rezoning to completion and develop the comprehensive rezoning plan for Coney Island while helping steer the City’s efforts to create a new mixed-use neighborhood in Willets Point.  Lieber previously served as Managing Director for the Private Equity division of Lehman Brothers, Inc., where he was responsible for originations for a $2.8 billion real estate merchant banking fund.  Prior to that, was Group Head of Global Real Estate Investment Banking.

Cas Holloway is Chief of Staff to Edward Skyler, New York City's Deputy Mayor for Operations, and Special Advisor to Mayor Bloomberg.  Prior to joining the Mayor’s Office, Cas was an associate at Debevoise & Plimpton LLP.  Cas graduated from the University of Chicago Law School with honors in June 2002; he was an associate at Cravath, Swaine & Moore LLP before serving as law clerk to Judge Dennis G. Jacobs, now Chief Judge of the United States Court of Appeals for the Second Circuit.  Prior to Law School, Cas served as Chief of Staff at the New York City Parks Department.  He graduated cum laude with an AB in Government from Harvard College.
