GOVERNOR AND MAYOR ANNOUNCE A NEW VISION FOR A NEW FINANCIAL DISTRICT

The first phase of a plan to transform the landscape and security outside the New York Stock Exchange was unveiled today. Governor George E. Pataki and Mayor Michael R. Bloomberg revealed a new long-term vision for the heart of the financial district. Since September 11th, security conditions crammed the streets surrounding the building making it difficult to maneuver around the area. The new improvements include resurfacing of the streets and the replacement of French barricades that previously chocked pedestrian traffic around the perimeter of the building to a new iron-style fence which frees up new lanes of pedestrian flow on Broad Street and Wall Street.

Future plans of the project will remove the pickup trucks in the area's intersection with more fitting gateways. The new phase and future possible phases will greatly improve the aesthetic and pedestrian flow of the area which will benefit those who work, live and visit the historic area.

A large scale banner currently covers the NYSE's façade illustrating life after the projects completion. The beautification and revitalization initiatives taking place will be completed this spring.
